World Champion Freediver
Born and raised in the Cayman Islands, Tanya discovered her recordbreaking gift for freediving in 1997 and in the following decade broke 10 world records, many of them previously held by men.
To this day she still holds the longest-standing world record in the sport, having dived on a single breath to a depth of 525ft/160m in the No Limits discipline off the coast of the Turks and Caicos Islands in August 2002, becoming the deepest person in the world.
Tanya was inducted into the Women Diver’s Hall of Fame in March 2000 and was honored at The Women’s Sports Foundations Annual awards ceremony in New York as one of the world’s top 80 female athletes for 2003. Tanya was also recognized by her hometown (Austin) by The Senate of State of Texas who passed resolution 129 in congratulating Tanya on her achievements, safety record and endeavors in promoting her sport. It was even declared “Tanya Streeter Day”!
